West Ham left back Aaron Cresswell is the best left back in Europe.
That’s according to Sofacore International who named the 32 year old in their team of the month for October alongside some of the most well knows players in the world.
And who are we to disagree? Cresswell who turns 33 soon has been criticised over the last season for his lack of defensive positioning. Aaron Cresswell is enjoying a upturn in form and as a result has been recognised for it.
Competition
In the summer many West Ham fans felt that new signing Emerson Palmieri would walk in to the starting XI, taking over the mantelpiece from Aaron who has now been at West Ham for 9 years since signing from Ipswich Town in 2014.
Mixed Fortunes
With the teams mixed fortunes this season. Aaron has stayed out of the line of fire, turning up week in and week out, performing to high standards solidifying his position in the team.
Experience
Serving the club for nearly 10 years he has become a real leader within the squad. There are no doubts he is the wrong side of 30 and that West Ham will need to look at a long term replacement for the Liverpool born defender, but having him mentor that player would be key to West Ham’s progression.
World Cup Chance
With the World Cup 2022 just around the corner, England boss Gareth Southgate will be naming his squad soon that will travel to Qatar this winter, and if we are to believe his moto of choosing his squad based upon “form and not reputation” mixed with the injuries piling up for England in defence it may prove tough to ignore Aaron Cresswell’s fine form and select him for the world Cup Squad in Qatar
