BEN JOHNSON BEMOANS MISSED OPPORTUNITIES

Ben Johnson was interviewed after West Ham were knocked out of the Carabao Cup last night on penalties to championship side Blackburn Rovers.

Lacking in front of goal

Despite being on the front foot for large parts of the game (having 22 shots and 15 corners) the Hammers lacked the real distinct cutting edge needed and failed once again to take the opportunities when they arose.

Speaking to the West Ham media team after the game Ben Johnson went on to say:

“When we go on the pitch, we’re getting more chances and we’re threatening. Our xG  (Expected Goals) has been high this year, but it’s just not happened for us and I don’t know why. Our attackers are looking in some good form. They’re gelling and they’re looking a threat in every game.”

“We had so many chances but, if you don’t take your chances then you’re not going to get the points you deserve. We’ve not been taking our chances but we have been unfortunate in a lot of the games, as we were tonight.”

Hopefully West Ham can find their shooting boots come the weekend with a critical game against fellow strugglers (but also on the rise!) Leicester City at the London Stadium on Saturday in the last game before the winter World Cup break.
