Nuno has called for his squad to ignore the Premier League table and focus on the 17 games of remaining in their season. Addressing the growing gap between his side and Forest, he admitted the situation is tough but warned that becoming “obsessed” with their league position would only breed anxiety. He emphasized that the team’s priority is their daily work and securing a morale-boosting victory, starting with their upcoming FA Cup fixture against QPR.
“It’s a tough situation, we’re aware of that. But there are still 17 games to play — a lot of football. What we must do is focus on ourselves, our daily work, and finding that win we need.”
Regarding team news, there was a positive update on Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who is available for Saturday after returning from the AFCON. While they are still assessing “normal knocks” from their midweek clash, Nuno defended his players’ character following the defeat to Forest. He stated that while setbacks—including a disallowed goal for Crysencio Summerville—have been difficult to explain to the players, he remains confident that the squad has the motivation to turn their form around.
“Now we focus on the FA Cup, then Tottenham next week. The approach must always be on ourselves and believing there’s still a lot of football to be played.”
The January transfer window remains a central theme, with Nuno confirming the club is working hard to “rebalance the squad.” He praised signings Pablo and Taty Castellanos for their bravery in joining during a relegation scrap, noting that talent is secondary to a player’s purpose and commitment to the fight. He dismissed the idea that the club’s league position makes it harder to attract quality, insisting that the right characters are eager to help the cause.
“What matters is that players come with purpose; to help. Like Pablo and Taty: talented, motivated, committed. That is more important than anything.”
Nuno was also cautious about possible outgoings as he looks to trim and refine his options. He confirmed that James Ward-Prowse is no longer in his plans and is expected to find a new club, though he remains professional while in training. Similarly, the manager suggested that younger players like George Earthy need loans for their development. The future of goalkeeper Mads Hermansen also appears uncertain; while Nuno has held “honest conversations” with him, a decision on whether he starts this weekend is yet to be made as the club reportedly scouts further additions in that position.
“His situation has been clear for some time. He’s not in the options, and it’s for him to find the best solution for his future.”When asked about JWP.
Looking ahead to the FA Cup, Nuno dismissed the idea of the competition being a mere distraction, instead viewing it as a vital opportunity to reset the team’s momentum. He stressed that a win is the “best medicine” for a struggling squad, noting that a positive result would accelerate physical recovery and lift the heavy atmosphere currently surrounding the club.
