LEGENDS SON TO START IN EUROPE?

19 Year old Freddie Potts son of West Ham legend and current West Ham Academy coach Steve Potts. Is in line to start the Europa Conference League game 6 away in Romania to FCSB. Unlike his dad Freddie plays in a more advanced role covering several areas of the midfield, a composed midfielder with a calming influence on the game, He does however have a trait of his father when he slips into the right hand side of a back three and did with ease for the U23’s.

Potts made his 1st team debut at the age of 18 last season as a substitute in the final group stages game in the Europa League v Dinamo Zagreb where West Ham went on to lose 1-0 in the then Dead Rubber game.

And it looks likely Potts may feature again alongside a whole host of Academy players. With the club writing on the official website

“Now, a year after making his first-team debut as a substitute in a UEFA Europa League tie with Dinamo Zagreb at London Stadium, the midfielder could be in line for his second senior appearance in Thursday’s UEFA Europa Conference League Group B tie with FCSB in Romania.”

Potts has admitted his excitement of being around the 1st team squad saying

“It’s a different environment, being with the first team, and being around the group 24/7, seeing what they’re like on and off the pitch is massive for my development as a player and as an individual as well,” he began.

“I loved it in Évian. The sessions were really good and being around the squad and the players was a really good experience. Being around it for a week was really important for me, in terms of the standards they set and learning from the players and how they act and live their lives. I’ll always remember my first pre-season tour.”

Exciting times ahead with the Academy of Football, and if Moyes decides to put the faith in Potts then hopefully he has a log and prosperous career with the club just like his dad did.
