LEEDS AND NEWCASTLE SWOOP IN FOR WEST HAM DEFENDER

After a much-debated deadline day saga that turned every which way and divided the fan base, Ashby ended up staying at the club despite the hard advances of Newcastle United, after which West Ham as a club and fanbase believed that both David Moyes and the club itself had managed to convince young Ashby to stay at the club.

Several Reports today state that young Harrison Ashby’s time at the club will soon be coming to an end.

Contract refusal

However, breaking developments over recent days, tell a much different story.

Allegedly, Ashby has turned down the offers from the club for a new contract, and as such Moyes and the club have taken the decision to sell the right sided fullback in the coming January transfer window rather than lose out on the player for nothing in the summer, with both Newcastle & Leeds showing a growing interest in the fullback.

Youth development Issue?

It will come as a major blow to both David Moyes and the incoming sporting director Mark Noble that what was once seen as a gateway into professional football through the famed academy may now not be looked on as favourably as it once was – if the notions to leave instead of pursue a career at the club is becoming as readily acted upon as both Ashby and former youth academy player Sonny Perkins have presented over the last year.

Unfortunately, Harrison Ashby’s days at the club certainly looked numbered, but only time will tell if this decision will be seen positively or negatively being either side.
