HAS CRESSWELL’S LONG TERM REPLACEMENT BEEN IDENTIFIED?

Mykola Matviyenko, a centre back for Shakhtar Donetsk, is a player that West Ham are looking at bringing in during the January transfer window.

According to a report from 90 Min, West Ham could face competition from clubs like Brighton for the 26-year-old. In fact, the 54-capped Ukrainian international was linked to a move to West Ham in January of this year, but he ultimately stayed with Shakhtar Donetsk. At some point during the upcoming two transfer windows, David Moyes must bolster the central defence at the London Stadium.

A younger central defender will undoubtedly be required if we are to make significant progress in the coming year since Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson are 34 and 32 years old, respectively. According to 90 Minutes, Brighton and the Hammers are vying for the services of the 26-year-old centre-back in January. The Ukrainian ace would be a great acquisition to West Ham, in our opinion. Matviyenko is not the tallest center-back at 5 feet 11 inches. The left-footed ace, however, is at ease when the ball is at his feet. When playing in a three, Matviyenko is the type of central defender who excels. He is also capable of playing left back. However, the Ukrainian international won’t be inexpensive.

Recently, according to a report from Sky Sports, Shakhtar Donetsk will want over £30 million for Matviyenko in January. Perhaps something closer to £20m would be a fairer price considering he doesn’t have any Premier League experience.
