BRAZILIAN WONDERKID BEING SCOUTED BY WEST HAM?

Brazilian playmaker Jeffinho is being “monitored” by West Ham, who have targeted him through their network of scouts in Brazil. In an effort to identify some promising young stars to bring to east London, West Ham stated in late October that they are launching a new scouting network in Rio de Janeiro.

With Jeffinho of Botafogo being mentioned as a potential transfer target, it appears that the Hammers have already decided on their first target. The news was first reported by Brazilian journalist Jose Passini and then repeated by Caught Offside. According to the article, scouts from West Ham and Newcastle have been keeping an eye on Jeffinho’s development and were “delighted” with his recent display against Santos.

Jeffinho might be exactly that. Even though he is only 22 years old and still has plenty of potential to develop, he is already producing at a high level in one of the best Brazilian leagues. While the club has added some notable big-name players this summer, such Lucas Paqueta and Gianluca Scamacca, it is encouraging to see the board making long-term plans with initiatives like the Rio scouting network.

West Ham can either grow a young star they purchase at a low price into a star or sell them for a high price. It’s a win-win situation for the Hammers no matter what the club decides to do with their Brazilian potential.
